Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day. Contrary to what some believe, it commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). A minor holiday in Mexico, it has become a very popular celebration of Mexican culture in U.S. which includes tacos, guacamole, chips and pitchers of margaritas. Enjoy responsibly!
