We Register Cars Every Year, Don’t We? Why not Guns? – December 2017

Every year, I renew my auto registration. I put a bright colored sticker on my license plate that shows the expiration month. If I use the vehicle and don’t register it, I could be pulled over and ticketed. If I continue to ignore the law, I will face having my car impounded.

No Gun Zone Here is what annual gun registration would do:

  1. Raise billions which would be used to enforce guns laws already in place.
  2. Fund a robust database of guns and gun owner qualifications.
  3. Facilitate swift removal of gun ownership rights for those who no longer qualify to own a gun under current laws.
  4. Enable authorities to confiscate unregistered guns without a warrant.
  5. Reduce the threat of gun violence in those communities that adopt annual registration.

I realize this is a hot-potato topic. I have discussed this issue with a number of hardcore “right to bear arms” advocates, and most of them agree that the gun violence problem is all about the owners and not the guns themselves. Meet Paola Monzon, YC’s fall intern. Born and raised in Lima, Peru, Paola studied international business management in Peru and is recently finished her studies at University of California, Irvine.
