Stop Singing the Blacklist Blues

So you’re sending out wave after wave of painstakingly-crafted emails, but they’re never reaching their destination. Yes, you’ve been listed on one of the dreaded blacklist sites. Naturally, you plead with the blacklist owner for mercy. But you’re flatly rebuffed with a curt instruction to ‘re-permission’ your list. Then you do the only thing you can – jump up and down in frustration.

Save the jumping for aerobics class. There’s a way to overcome the blacklist barrier. Just follow these steps, and you’ll stop singing the blacklist blues before you know it.

Get Clued Into the Code – The blacklist is probably sending you a bounce code. Use this code to find out if the block is temporary or permanent. In most cases, a bounce code comes complete with a URL that points you to the reasons your emails are intercepted. You also may be provided with contact info if you need to delve further into the matter. But be warned – if you lack a bounce code, chances are excellent that a blacklist owner will ignore you.

Develop a Battle Plan – Once you know the problem, create a strategy to solve it. This should consist of a short term plan to immediately resolve the issue, and a long-term plan to prevent a re-occurrence. You also might want to haul in an outside expert to evaluate your email practices.

Implement – Once your strategy is set, get it into action with lightening speed. The sooner you act, the sooner the block is reversed. Remember, patience is a virtue. Your efforts may not bear fruit for days, and possibly weeks. While you wait it out, monitor your email issue to ensure things are moving in the right direction. Don’t worry. A well-executed strategy usually is sufficient to lift the block. Just give it time.
