Are you beefing up digital content with video? You’re not alone. More and more businesses and marketers are leaping onto the video bandwagon. Why the rush?

User patterns tell a compelling story. People aren’t just watching video; they’re devouring it. Recent stats reveal that the average user spends about 16 hours per week watching videos. Research also shows that about 33% of all consumed content is in the video format. And the future indicates no slowdowns on the horizon – projections reveal that by sometime next year, video streaming and downloads will account for roughly 82% of worldwide internet traffic. Clearly, demand is surging, and so is the interest of marketers.

How should businesses approach this gold mine? Many newcomers (and experienced pros) are discovering the undeniable value of simplicity. Shunning costly productions, savvy marketers are opting for basic, one-person-on-camera showcases.

There’s a risk here, of course – monotony. A single speaker offers little in the way of audience-grabbing variety. One individual, one voice. But alas, there’s sun on the horizon. Marketers are learning they can overcome monotony by implementing several proven strategies.

A good starting point is background, which can be jazzed up with furniture, props, a picture, or other item of visual interest. Give free rein to the imagination, but don’t go to extremes. Simple and relevant should guide your choice. Visual distractions will only blur the message.

Sound quality also is crucial, especially since the visual dynamics will be a bit on the limited side. To ensure the highest level of audio performance, use an external microphone instead of the camera’s built-in addition. Superior sound will be the result.

Finally, marketers should shun the stagnant camera school of filmmaking. Shoot your opus at multiple angles, creating a sense of movement and emphasizing key talking points. You may not win cinematography award, but you’ll do your digital marketing video a world of good.
