Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation, Prego, and Young Company Celebrated its 16th Annual Festa Della Vendemmia to Stomp Out Kids Cancer - October 6, 2002

Orange County’s Prego Ristorante celebrated its 16th Annual Festa della Vendemmia, the Traditional Italian Harvest of Grapes to benefit the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF). With the help of Prego, PCRF and Young Company, the event raised over $30,000. Over 300 guests received Italian tastes of delicious foods, wine, music and activities for kids themed to “Stomp out kids’ cancer!”

Prego Restaurant Manager, Sal Faso, his generous team of chefs, and staff hosted the event delivering a special family afternoon at 18420 Von Karmen in Irvine last Sunday, October 6. This annual fundraising event celebrates the traditional harvest of the grapes…just like in the old country… Italy!

Children were able to enjoy a horse and buggy ride complete with hay. Children also had their faces painted and after grape stomping had their feet hosed off by the local Fire Department Station #28. A tour of the shiny red truck with all the trimmings was a favorite for kids of all ages!

Straight from Southern Italy, the velvet voice of Enzo, flavored the air with melodic songs of the old country. The auction boasted items that included sports memorabilia, rare wines and even a 2 night stay in Santa Fe, New Mexico…all benefiting children’s cancer research.

The Festa della Vendemmia PCRF Chairperson, Kim Weiner, told us that she and her family were delighted to welcome all of the newcomers. Parents, grandparents, siblings and friends tasted wine and delicious foods. They hope to host an even larger event next year! The public is always welcome to share in these festivities!

Chef Ugo has given all of us his recipe for Chicken Nona (Grandma), in honor of this PCRF event!

About PCRF

The Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (PCRF) is a group of people dedicated to fighting kid’s cancer. Some members are parents who have lost children, others are dealing with the disease today, some celebrate their healthy families, and then there are some who participate simply because there is an opportunity to make a difference. PCRF’s mission is to fund research that will benefit kids with malignant diseases everywhere. This year, PCRF celebrates 20 Years of Building on Miracles. In 1982 a child stricken with cancer had a 20-30% survival rate. Today, those numbers have increased to 70-80%. PCRF will not stop until children’s cancer is a thing of the past. Research provides opportunity for new, less invasive and more effective treatments. PCRF funds this research on a national scope and with worldwide implications.
