Really Good Harvey Wallbanger Cake Recipe

The Story of the Harvey Wallbanger

Donato “Duke” Antone invented the Harvey Wallbanger drink in 1952 at Duke’s Blackwatch Bar on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. Unfortunately, it was not a hit until the 1970s when Galliano became the most popular imported liquor in the U.S. The drink was named for Manhattan Beach surfer Tony Harvey, who was a regular at the bar. Other drinks invented by Duke include the Rusty Nail, White Russian, Italian Fascination, Freddie Fudpucker and the Kamikaze.

Harvey Wallbanger Cake Recipe

INGREDIENTS

1 box yellow cake mix

1 small box of vanilla instant pudding

4 eggs

1 cup vegetable oil

1/4 cup vodka

1/4 cup Galliano

3/4 cup orange juice

DIRECTIONS

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare 10” Bundt pan with butter, vegetable oil or non-stick spray and dust it with flour.

In a mixing bowl with mixer on low, combine cake mix and vegetable oil. Add eggs one by one until fully combined. Slowly pour in liquid. Mix for 2 minutes on medium. Pour into Bundt pan and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden.

While cake is baking, prepare glaze.

2 cups powdered sugar

3 tbsp. each of vodka, Galliano, and orange juice.

With a mixer, combine powdered sugar and 3 tbsp. of vodka until blended. Add the Galliano and orange juice. Blend, cover and set aside.

Once the cake has finished baking, cool for ten minutes then turn onto serving plate. Take a toothpick and poke several holes on the top and sides of the cake. Slowly drizzle the glaze over the warm cake. Try to cover the entire surface. There will be liquid residue on the sides and in the middle of the plate, but this should be absorbed by the cake overnight. Loosely cover the cake and let stand unrefrigerated overnight. Before serving, decorate the top of the cake with powdered sugar or glazed orange rind.
