Get Your Brand Out of the Mud

Get Your Brand Out of the Mud

Is your brand stuck in the mud? Going nowhere fast in the online community? Could be you’re doing certain things you shouldn’t. Here are some examples. Put them on your company’s forbidden list and keep ‘em there.

Winging It

Improvising is great for comedians but devastating for marketers. What’s needed is a clear plan that delineates every single goal on the horizon. Avoid fuzzy objectives like higher revenues. Goals must be specific and inextricably tied to schedules. For example — achieve a 5% sales increase by such and such date.

Overreaching

OK, you have a crystal clear plan laid out and scheduled. You’re ready for action. So you do it all, plastering every social media site with content and blasting out emails by the truckload. This approach likely will do only one thing – deplete your limited resources. Not to mention your precious energy. Far more productive is knowing what works for your audience. How often do they want to be pinged? What are their social hangouts? If you don’t know, there’s a little invention called the survey.

De-Personalizing

Treat you audience like names in a stack, and your brand likely will be shoved aside. Marketers will get much more bang for their buck by sprinkling personal touches into emails and content. Start by dividing customer lists into specific categories – region, interests, age, etc. Once these demos are known, brand messaging can be shaped accordingly. A great time to gather this information is during email sign-ups.
