Brand marketers, set your stopwatches for a rapid content marketing overview – one minute flat. It won’t make you an expert. But you’ll sure be able to fake it.

The Funnel
Get ‘em to the top of the sales funnel … Of all things content marketing is designed to do, this is the big one. Boosted rankings, greater awareness, higher engagement are all part of benefits package, of course. But they all lead to this coveted sales funnel destination.

Don’t Push
Brand marketers must realize one thing about content marketing right off the bat … it has spun customer relationships completely upside down. In the Pre-Digital Age, messaging was decidedly one-sided. TV, print, and radio did all the sending. Consumers did the receiving. Interaction between the two stood at an absolute zero.
The Web, of course, has opened up a two-way road of steady interaction. Message recipients pick viewable content and fire back feedback at will. Pushy marketers won’t get very far. Brands must gently pull customers forward with enticing, engaging content.

Know Your Limits
Yes, the Web is packed to the hilt with delivery channels. Still, who can cover them all? Nobody. So be selective when it comes to your message routes. Otherwise, you’ll be spreading yourself way too thin.. and you’ll likely miss your targets.
What you want to do is identify your audience hangouts and stick to these destinations. Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, whatever. By hitting the right channels, you allow consumers to grab your content how, when, and where they want it. Remember, no pushing allowed.
