Time for Responsive Media? – October 2015

Changing Tides - October 2015

Over the past decade two trends have caused the rise of responsive web design:

  1. Smart Phones
  2. Big Screen TV’s

Together, they have driven the need for website developers to create sites using responsive design tools so that the content of any given website formats itself to fit the device on which it is displayed. Okay, so you knew that already. And now you expect it.

Today’s buzz is all about programmatic media. The term (also known as programmatic marketing or programmatic advertising) encompasses an array of technologies that automate the buying, placement, and optimization of media inventory, replacing human-based methods. Supply and demand partners utilize these automated systems and business rules to more strategically place advertisements in electronically targeted media inventory.

Still in its infancy, programmatic media is both a wonderful and horrible development. Over time you will see less personally irrelevant advertising. However, because responsive media adapts advertising to your demographics, purchase behavior and lifestyle, you will not be able to easily shake loose those pesky ads that follow you wherever you go.

No Access on a Remote Island

Love it or hate it, you won’t be able to avoid it unless you are willing to pay for ad blocking protection from these marketing robots or check yourself permanently into a NO ACCESS hotel on a remote island with no cell towers, no Internet and no cable TV. Sounds pretty good, huh? So how would you market such a phenomenally serene place? How about a key word campaign based on “turn off these %$#@!&*! Ads?” It may be coming sooner than you think.
