7 Steps to a Better Branding in Pinterest

7 Steps to a Better Branding in Pinterest

Are you using Pinterest? Only 5% of U.S. business are at the moment…

Did you know that over 1 million Pinterest boards exist (and counting…), and the site will reach over 47 MILLION PEOPLE THIS YEAR ALONE, plus the half-life of a pin is 3.5 months….so…are you using Pinterest…?

If I had a business (and not just selling products to women…), I’d be on Pinterest because of the traffic…but also because there is a HUGE gap of businesses that are using it correctly!

So, we decided to give you a “jump-start” so you can get a hold on this growing platform!

1. Sign Up!

Signing up is easy and you can connect your Facebook or Twitter accounts to connect with friends as well as finding your favorite brands. One of the easiest ways to get this “jump start”, is to connect your existing accounts, so that you can instantly be connected to your interests…and your not spending the first 30 minutes trying to find “your favorite blog”.

2. Create Your Profile

When creating your profile, remember the importance of  staying consistent with your usernames. Make it easy for your followers/customers, and try to keep the same (style) of name…so like ToyCompanyTexas, or ToyCompanyTx, or ToyCompany_Texas. So, when people are searching for your profile (not everyone clicks the little icons from your website…), they can easily find you by typing in nearly the same letters, even if there is an underscore or abbreviation.

3. Check Your Settings

Once you activate your account make sure you check the email settings due to how many you would like to be receiving. Pinterest can bombard you if you don’t pay attention, so I’d set my notifications for once-per-week so nothing falls through the cracks.

4. Create a New Board

On your profile click on “Create a Board” and have descriptive names for your boards for new followers. You can allow others to contribute to your boards by adding pinners on a per-board basis, but they wont be able to edit the title or category of the board. Next step: create engaging cover images for your board!

5. What Do I Share?

Now that you have created a board or two you can fill them with pins! But if you are having social media anxiety…here are few VERY popular pins on Pinterest:

Pictures, Bookmarks, Recipes. Motivational quotes • Home decor ideas, Places to visit, Wedding inspiration, Craft projects, Books, Magazine, Covers, Movies, Gifts, Shoes, Accessories, Humor, Inspiration, Causes, Video, Style, Clothes, to name a few….

When hovering over a photo there is a red “Pin It” button, when clicking on that it will ask what board you want to add the pin. If you want to add a new board while pinning you can easily make a new board on the spot. Start with 5-8 boards, and make them all different from each other. If you don’t have that many topics, start with 1! 🙂

Ideally, you want to share your content at 5AM and 5PM EST. Why? Because this is when the majority of people are just CHECKING their Pinterest pages…not creating new pins. This is the ideal traffic time, and a great way to get your newest content in front of a lot of eyes at once.

7. You Become the Pinner!

Now that you are armed with this new knowledge, its time to become a contributor to this burgeoning community! Ideally, you want to share content that originates on YOUR OWN site, so you are actively driving traffic to your website, not someone else’s.
