Learn How Wilbert Won the President – June 2014

Changing Tides - June 2014

The Power of One: How one young man creates one video designed for one audience and impacts thousands. Many are now aware that president Barrack Obama will be speaking at UCI’s commencement on June 14th. What you may know is that it was creative video of Wilbert Cheng (2013 Young Company summer intern) featuring a personal appeal from 7-foot-6 basketball center Mamadou Nidaye that tipped the scales in UCI’s favor over hundreds of other worthy schools. While UCI did conduct a massive mailing, it was the video shot and produced by Wilbert that won the honor of the president’s time, attention and commitment to UCI.

I welcome your feedback and thoughts. I can be reached at byoung@youngcompany.com or 949-438-2722.

Thank you!

Congratulations Wilbert!

Wilbert

Special Note: No president has spoken at UCI since Lyndon B. Johnson inaugurated the school in 1964 and very few presidents have ever spoken at a commencement on the west coast. Due to enormous demand, UCI had to move the annual ceremony to Angel Stadium which has caused some inconveniences for students and their families. Angel Stadium holds 45,000 of which 8,000 will be UCI graduates. The balance will be their families, friends and news media.
